Theory of Pete, and the end of my internship

At the suggestion of Matt Huang, I purchased my first superhero comic today: Watchmen. After seeing the preview again after a second viewing of Batman, I decided I wanted to read the original first. So hopefully that's a good investment.

Not much to report. My summer has not been nearly as exciting as Andy's, Brandon's, or Jake's (sorry to the rest of you bloggers). My internship ends on Friday, though, so I'm excited to hopefully make a good impression on everyone at the end.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with a preview of my next comic. I think it comes out in the tech this Friday. But I'll probably forget to post it if I don't do this now. I hope it brings back fond memories for anyone who read these particular comics.

And as always, I appreciate suggestions besides the mandatory "First post!!1!"

I'm sure we've all felt this way before...

Quick post, since I delayed posting my comic from last week. I should also say that last week I figured out that the Kanye ad I posted is for Absolut so I was completely suckered by it. It was amusing while it lasted, though.

I hope you enjoy my comic. Not that I play a lot of video games, but I'm sure many of us can relate to this kind of frustration.

Be Kanye

Dunno if anyone's discovered this yet, but Kanye West is doing this funny series of ads. I saw this one the subway:

There's more of that online, and it's almost more ridiculous. Just check youtube, or google "be kanye."

It's been a while

I'd like everyone reading to note that this is my fourth post this summer. Though to many experienced bloggers, this may not seem particularly fantastic, for me, it represents the growth of my personal blogging tendencies. I have now written twice as many posts as I wrote last summer!

Thus, by my calculations, if I continue this rate of growth, I will be blogging more than Alex Hsu in less than 20 years! (As a caveat to this, my total blog length in words will not exceed his for another 10 years, and my total blog length will exceed his in just over 50 years.)

Just kidding. But Alex Hsu posts a lot.

Highlights of my summer include baking a cake. That may not seem like much, but you didn't try this cake. It had 11 eggs, 5.5 sticks of butter, and 2 lb.s of sugar. It was a beast of a cake. And it was about the same size as a standard cake, so each slice was really filling. After I made it, my family sat down and ate a slice each. Even though it was right before dinner, we couldn't eat for another five hours.

I've also started rowing on an erg (is that right?) machine. So hopefully I'll be as big as Stenard when I get back (yeah right...). I've actually also been incredibly successful at continuing Karate. After three years, my black belt is finally getting embroidered. This is a little sad, because most people get their black belts embroidered after six months. It's also sad because the person who embroiders belts is on vacation, so I won't get my belt back for another three weeks. Which means that in the interim, I will be wearing a white belt. Which is OK. White belts are pretty stylish.

I'll put up my comic for this coming Wednesday soon. Hopefully I submitted it early enough for the paper...

The Cai Blog

Just kidding, sorry Ted. But yeah, I'm just quickly throwing up my latest comic. I still don't have that much feedback on whether to do this or not. Still trying to find time to write something interesting and post it.
And I dunno if this makes it clear, but I'm not a huge anime consumer, although I respect the style.

Theory of Pete, Commencement Issue

I realize I've been rather delinquent in my blogging. Apologies. Life has a way of doing that. A lot has been happening, and I don't have time to write it all now, but I just wanted to post my latest comic for anyone who didn't manage to grab the commencement issue of The Tech. Oh, and if anyone in Boston could save me two copies, that would be awesome!

If anyone has thoughts on the cartooning, please let me know! Especially if you don't want me to put them in this blog.

Oh, also if anyone knows how to make pictures bigger within the post, I'm having trouble with that. For now you can click on the comic to make it big enough to read.

Working on Memorial Day

So first: thanks to Evan for ceding ownership of this blog to me. Hopefully there will be more posts than there were last year. And more contributors.

As the title of this post suggests, I was working today. That's not such a bad thing: I hate not doing anything, and being aimless for even the two days this weekend was an unpleasant shock. Around spring break this year, my boss from last year, Joel, asked if I could spare a week this summer to do some data analysis for him. Maybe it's strange I accepted, but he is one of the most intelligent people I have met, and last year I learned a lot from him, and from this first day, it seems that this experience will be similar--more intense in fact.

We're analyzing world immigration data between 1960 and 2004. And along the way, he's teaching me most of the applicable statistics and mathematics. So a lot like last year (refer to last years post: the one before this one). Only more intense, as I mentioned before. The concentration level I sustained for about eight hours today (including breaks I suppose) was about the same level of concentration I maintained for each of my finals before I left. And right now I'm mentally exhausted. It was very, very difficult.

I guess this confirms that I'm a masochist, but I'm looking forward to going in tomorrow. I hope everyone is enjoying their summers so far!
